Rules and Regulations for Events

RULES FOR EVENTS

MUSICAL EVENTS:

  1. LIGHT MUSIC VOCAL –INDIAN(MALE/FEMALE)

    1. Competitions are held separately for men and women.

    2. Only non film light songs can be presented

    3. Maximum time allowed is 5 mts

    4. Judgment will be based on qualities like Swara, Taal, Composition, General impression etc.

    5. No accompanists are allowed.

  2. CLASSICAL VOCAL- SOLO (MALE/FEMALE)

    1. Competitions are held separately for men and women.

    2. Maximum time allowed is 10 mts.

    3. No. of accompanists allowed would not be more than 2.

    4. Judgment will be based on qualities like Swara, Taal, Selection of Raga, Composition, General impression etc.

  3. WESTERN VOCAL- SOLO (MALE/FEMALE)

    1. Competitions are held separately for men and women.

    2. Maximum time allowed is 10 mts.

    3. No. of accompanists allowed would not be more than 2.

    4. Language should be English.

    5. Judgment will be based on qualities like Rhythm, Composition, General impression etc.

  4. GROUP MUSIC –EASTERN

    1. Maximum number of participants in a group can be 12.

    2. Song should be taken from Indian songs, which can be in any regional language.

    3. No film songs are allowed.

    4. Maximum time allowed is 10 mts.

    5. Instruments are to be played by the participants only.

    6. Judgment will be based on qualities like Sruthi, Taal, Rhythm, and Harmony.

  5. WESTERN- VOCAL GROUP

    1. Maximum number of participants in a group can be 12.

    2. Song should be in English.

    3. Instruments are to be played by the participants only.

    4. Maximum time allowed is 10 mts.

    5. Judgement will be based on qualities like Rhythm, Harmony, Composition, Co-ordination, General impression, etc.

6. KARAOKE

  1. Maximum time allowed is 20 mts.

  2. Maximum number of participants in a group can be 6. (Minimum 3)

  3. Songs should be film songs of Indian languages.

  4. The participants should bring the tracks.

  5. Judgement will be based on qualities like Rhythm, Harmony, General impression, etc.

7. MAPPILAPATTU

  1. No accompanists allowed.

  2. Competitions are held separately for men and women.

  3. Maximum time allowed is 5 mtsFilm songs are not allowed.

  4. Judgement will be based on quality of singing, clarity of language, general impression etc

8. PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS

  1. Maximum time allowed is 10 mts.

  2. Judgment will be based on qualities like Taal, Harmony, Composition, Naadam, Kalapramanam, General impression, etc.

  3. Instruments allowed are

WESTERN - Triple Drum, Jazz

EASTERN - Chenda, Edakka, Madhalam, Ganjira, Mridangam , Ghadam, Thabla, Thavil etc

  1. The participants should bring their own instruments.

  2. No accompanists allowed.

  3. Western and Eastern will be separate competitions

9. WIND INSTRUMENTS

  1. Maximum time allowed is10 mts

  2. Judgement will be based on qualities like Taal, Composition, Naadam, Emotion, Orginality, Rhythm, General impression etc.

  3. Instruments allowed are

WESTERN -Accordion, Saxophone, Organ,

EASTERN - Harmonium, flute, nadaswaram etc.

  1. Judgment will be based on qualities like Taal, Harmony, Composition, Naadam, KalaPramanam, General impression, etc -

  2. The participants should bring their own instruments

  1. Western and Eastern will be separate competitions



10. STRING INSTRUMENTS

  1. Maximum time allowed is10 mts

  2. Judgment will be based on qualities like Taal, Composition, Naadam, Emotion, Orginality, Rhythm, General impression, etc.

  3. Instruments allowed are -Veena, Sitar for Eastern and violin and Guitar for Western.

  4. The participants should bring their own instruments


DANCE EVENTS

11. BHARATHANATYAM \ MOHINIYATTAM \ KUCHIPPUDI

  1. Maximum time allowed is 15 mts

  2. Maximum 4 accompanists are permissible.

c. Judgment will be based on qualities like Taal, Technique,

Rhythm, Abhinaya(expression), Costumes, Footwork, General

Impression etc.

d. No preference is given to live music. It can be CD’s or cassettes.


12. FOLK DANCE-SINGLE

  1. Maximum time allowed is 10 mts

  2. Maximum 2 accompanists are permissible.

  3. Judgment will be based on Rhythm, Abhinaya(expression), Costumes, theme, over all impression etc.

  4. Dance can be either primitive or folk but not a classical one.


13. MARGAMKALI, THIRUVATHIRA, OPPANA,

  1. Number of participants is as follows

MARGAMKALI – 6 dancers + 1 singer (total - 7)

THIRUVATHIRA – 8 dancers + 2 singers (total 10)

OPPANA – 7dancers + 3 singers (total 10)

  1. Maximum 4 accompanists are permissible.

  2. Judgment will be based on Rhythm, Expression, Costumes, Make-up, over all impression etc.

  3. Maximum time allowed is 10 mts

  4. Only for female participants.

  5. Singers should be students of respective colleges.



14. FOLK DANCE- GROUP

    1. Maximum number of participants is 10.

    2. Maximum time allowed is 10 mts.

    3. Judgment will be based on rhythm, expression, costumes, make-up, over all impressions etc.

    4. It should be a traditional dance form of a particular community or a primitive one,(strictly from folklore), but not a classical dance.


15. CHOREO -VIDEO

  1. Maximum number of participants is 10.

  2. Maximum time allowed is 10 mts.

  3. Judgment will be based on choreography, theme, Stage setting, Costumes, Make-up, Music, over all impression etc.

  4. Free style less preferred.

  5. Any genre of music can be used.


16. NOSTALGIA

  1. Film songs –dated before 1990 only allowed

  2. Maximum number of participant is 10.

  3. Maximum time – 10 minutes

  4. Judgment will be based on performance, costumes, make up, music, justifying nostalgic mood, over all impression etc

  5. Free style less preferred.

OTHER STAGE ITEMS


17. FANCY DRESS

  1. Maximum time allowed is 3 minutes.

  2. Judgment will be based on qualities like idea, creativity of presentation, make up, costumes and general impressions.


18. MONOACT

  1. Maximum time allowed is 5 minutes.

  2. Judgment will be based on qualities like ability to act, command of voice, imitative ability, originality, clarity of language, literary expression and general impression.

  3. Medium can be English or Malayalam

19. MIMICRY (MALE/FEMALE)

  1. Maximum time allowed is 5 minutes.

  2. Judgment will be based on qualities like imitative ability, command of voice, originality, clarity of language, literary expression and general impression.

20. RECITATION (MALAYALAM/ENG/ARABIC/TAMIL/SANSKRIT/HINDI)

  1. Maximum time allowed is 10 minutes.

  2. Judgment will be based on clarity of speech, expression of emotion and ideas, rhythm, tune, general impression et.

  3. The participant should reveal the source of the poem.


21. TABLEAU

  1. Maximum time allowed is 30 seconds.

  2. Announcement can be made just before the commencement.

  3. No placards and posters can be used.

  4. Maximum no of participants-8(Minimum- 6).

  5. Maximum time allowed for stage setting is 5 minutes.

22. SKIT (MALAYALAM/ENGLISH)

  1. Max no of participants is 7.

  2. Max time allowed is 10 minutes.

  3. Medium- Malayalam/English.

  4. No personal remarks, aspersions, character assassination etc are allowed.

  5. Make up, drapery and background music is allowed.

  6. Judgment will be based on qualities like theme, satirical effect, humour, stagecraft, total design, general impression etc.


23. MIME

  1. Maximum no of participants is 6.

  2. Maximum time allowed is 7 minutes.

  3. Judgment will be based on qualities like idea, creativity of presentation, use of make up, costumes, music, general impression etc.


24. DRUG PICTURE (SINGLE)

  1. Drug to be performed should be reported 30 minutes before the

Competition.

  1. Maximum time – 10 minutes

  2. Medium- Malayalam/English.

  3. Judgment will be based on qualities like theme, clarity of presentation, expression of symptoms, stagecraft, 'Abhinaya' general impression etc.

  4. Participant should be always on stage

  5. 2 accompanists can be allowed.

  6. Symptoms expressing in dialogues as such are less preferred and they are supposed to be presented through body movements and in acting.


25. DRUG DRAMA

  1. Drug to be performed should be reported 30 minutes before the

Competition

  1. Maximum no of participants is 8.

  2. Minimum no of participants is 4.

  3. Maximum time – 15 minutes.

  4. Medium- Malayalam/English.

  5. Judgment will be based on qualities like theme, clarity of presentation, expression of symptoms, stagecraft, 'Abhinaya' general impression etc.

  6. Equal importance should be given to the theater element and drug portraits.

  7. Symptoms expressing in dialogues as such are less preferred and they are supposed to be presented through body movements and in acting.


26 KATHAPRASANGAM

  1. Medium- Malayalam

  2. Maximum time allowed is 10 minutes

  3. Accompanists allowed –3 students of the participating college.

  4. Judgment will be based on quality of language, theme, expression of emotion and ideas, harmony, singing, general impression etc.



OFF STAGE ITEMS

27. ELOCUTION (MALAYALAM/ENGLISH/HINDI)

  1. Maximum time allowed for preparation is 10 minutes.

  2. Maximum time allowed for speech is 5 minutes.

  3. The language of the competition shall be strictly followed.

  4. Reading of the speech is not allowed but the participant may refer to the written points for the speech.

  5. No material can be taken in for preperation.

  6. Judgment will be based on qualities like correctness of language, clarity of expression, development of theme and other rhetorical qualities.

28 PAINTING

  1. Item will be conducted “On the spot”.

  2. Duration not more than 2hr.

  3. Only Paper will be provided {1\2 imperial size drawing paper ie; 22inch by 15 inch}

  4. Painting can be done in water based colour.

29. PENCIL DRAWING

  1. Item will be conducted “On the spot”.

  2. Duration not more than 1hr.

  3. Only Paper will be provided {1\2 imperial size drawing paper ie; 22inch by 15 inch}

30. CARTOONING & CARICATURE

  1. The theme for cartooning as well as caricature (Personality) will be given “On the spot”.

  2. Duration not more than 1 ½ hr.

  3. Only Paper will be provided {1\2 imperial size drawing paper Ie; 22inch by 15 inch}

  1. Only Black pens\Pencil\Marker used.


31. COLLAGE

  1. Item will be conducted “On the spot”.

  2. Duration not more than 2hr.

  3. Only canvas (chart sheet) and magazines will be provided.

  4. No cutting instruments preferred

  5. Picturisation will be considered for valuation.

  6. Cut out pictures as such is not allowed.

  7. No writing in ink/paint allowed.

32. DRUG CARTOONING

  1. Duration not more than 1hr.

  2. Subject {Drug}will be given “On the spot”.

  3. Only Paper will be provided {1\2 imperial size drawing paper ie; 22inch by 15 inch}

  4. Only black pencils\pens\ markers used.

33. PHOTOGRAPHY

  1. Item will be conducted “On the spot”.

  2. Time will be fixed by the judges.

  3. Print-As specified by the judges.

  4. Digital Cameras and Image manipulation not allowed.

  5. Participants should bring the camera.

  6. There will be an entry fee for the competetion.

  7. The judges will give detailed rules.


34. RANGOLI

  1. Size should not be more than 44 ft.

  2. No of participants allowed –3

  3. Only artificial colour powders are used and participants should bring the materials.

  4. Time allowed-2hrs.

  5. Stencils should not be used.

  6. Judgment will be based on way of presentation, theme, colour combination and general impression.

35. CLAY MODELLING.

  1. Subject will be given “On the spot”.

  2. Clay will be provided.

  3. Duration will not be more than 2 hrs.

  4. Judgment will be based on the perfection and justification of the given subject.

36. HOMOEOPATHIC QUIZ

  1. A team consists 4 members.

  2. Questions shall be from homoeopathic syllabus.

  3. General rules regarding the quiz will be informed by Quiz Master.




37. SHORT STORY WRITING (ENGLISH/MALAYALAM/HINDI)

  1. Item will be conducted “On the spot”.

  2. The language of the competition shall be strictly used.

  3. No reference will be permitted during the competition.

  4. Judgment will be based on qualities like delineation of Character, Plot construction, Theme, Diction, Correctness and the Style of language and General impression etc.

  5. Duration -maximum 1 hr.


38. POETRY WRITING(ENGLISH / MALAYALAM/HINDI).


  1. Item will be conducted “On the spot”.

  2. Duration – maximum 1 hr.

  3. The language of competition shall be strictly used.

  4. No reference will be permitted during the competition.

  5. Judgment will be based on qualities like Theme, Diction, Imagery, Emotion, Appropriate use of languages, General impression etc.

  6. Poem shall be original and not borrowed or copied or copied from others.


39. ESSAY-ENGLISH\MALAYALAM\HINDI

  1. The language of competition shall be strictly used.

  2. No reference will be permitted during the competition.

  3. Judgment will be based on qualities like development of theme, Composition, Appropriateness of style, Correctness of Language, Originality, General impression etc.

  4. Duration – maximum 1 hr.

  5. Subject will be given “On the spot”.

40. DEBATE

  1. Subject will be given 10 mts earlier for preparation.

  2. A team consists of 2 members-One participant speaks for and other against the topic.

  3. Maximum time allowed is 5+5mts.

  4. Valuation will also consider balancing of points between team members.



41. FLIM REVIEW

  1. The review is to be written on a film screened before the competitors.

  2. Time allowed for review writing is one hr.

  3. Judgment will be based on the Concept, Way of presentation, and contemporary relevance of the particular film etc.


Pro gramme committee will have right to amend any provision and such amendments will be conveyed to all the colleges in time. Contact Program committee convener for any clarifications.

General Rules

  1. Every participant shall bring their identity cards or authorization letter signed by the principal of concerned colleges and registration of each and every participants, accompanists and teachers is to be made.

Registration fees for an individual to participate in the fest is Rs60/-

  1. A student can participate in a maximum number of 6 individual events and any number of group events.

  2. Two participants from a college can participate in a single event and only a single team for group events.

  3. At least three teams or three participants of three separate colleges should be registered for a competition to be conducted; otherwise that competition will be canceled.

  4. The 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes for the items shall be awarded on the basis of the following criteria.


    • When the variation of the marks by the different judges is not more than 20%, the highest average of the marks awarded by the three judges shall be norm.

    • If the difference, between the highest and the lowest exceeds 20%, the highest or the lowest as the case may be, shall not be considered. Instead the average of the two marks, the difference of which does not exceed 20% shall be taken.

    • But in the case of the difference between the marks awarded by the three judges is all greater than 20% the average of the two marks having the minimum difference (though more than 20%) shall be taken. The maximum marks for an item is 100.

6) There shall be an individual champion among men and another

among women participants decided on the basis of total points

scored in individual stage items by individual participants alias
Kalaprathibha and Kalathilakam.

Individual champion who scores maximum point in designing
competitions will be awarded Chitraprathiba and who scores maximum
in other offstage items will be awarded Sargaprathibha.

Participation as accompanist or in-group items will not be

Considered for the calculation of points for championship.

In the case of tie, the championship shall be shared.

8) There shall be a steering Committee to supervise and control

the conduct of the Homoeo Fest.

The committee shall at least consist of the following

9) There shall no over writing in the scoring sheets presented by

Tabulation sheets and other relevant papers pertaining to the item shall be kept in sealed covers under the safe custody of the program committee.

  1. Steering committee shall have power to consider any complaint received in writing from the participant concerned regarding the conduct of Homoeo Fest and it shall have the power to call for any record if it finds relevant and connected with the conduct of the festival.

  2. Any complaint in writing shall be submitted within an hour of the announcement of the result along with a protest fee of Rs.500/-

Protest fee will not be returned unless the complaint is proved to be genuine. The decision of the judges shall be final.

  1. The steering committee shall be competent to disqualify any participant or team for gross misbehavior or violation of rules.

  2. An identity card will be issued for every individual who have registered for the fest and each of them shall be responsible to produce ID wherever and whenever necessary.

  3. Food will be provided for the individuals who have registered for the fest. Food coupons will be given to the individuals at the time of registration.

  4. Accommodation will be provided for each and every individual registered for the fest. There will be separate accommodation for girls and boys.

  5. ll participants shall maintain dignity and decorum at the festival at all time. If the behaviour of any participants or accompanier is found contrary to the objectives of the festival steering committee may take appropriate action against the person concerned or the team as it may seem necessary.

  6. Only BHMS undergoing students and House surgeons are allowed to participate. Students who are waiting for final year results are also eligible to participate.

  7. Students should be preferred as accompaniers. But in case of necessity, the participants may bring outsiders as accompanier.

  8. The complete entry form and list of participants and accompaniers signed by the principal should reach the program committee on or before 28-03-2008. No changes or additions shall be allowed after last date of reciept of entry forms.

  9. Ammendments: The program is competent to make any ammendments as it may deem to be necessary for the harmonious conduct of the fest.
